Advice on hardware
In regard to immediate hardware investments, we can provide you with solid recommendations on any hardware needed. We start with minimum requirements for the system and then move on to future needs for the hardware. We can take care of the whole process for you.

System setup and configuration

According to the specifications worked out during the structure process, we can assist you in all areas related to setting up and configuring your system – from basic installations, through user definitions and permissions, to server setup and configuration.

This process consists of two parts:

  1. First step is to evaluate the security requirements for the system, while taking user needs into account.
  2. When the security needs are in place, we start the process with creating automated installs for your system, along with setting up the servers, domains and user settings.

Construction of Company IT Policies:

  1. First we construct a company IT policy if one does not already exist. Complete with guidelines for mail handling, task assignments etc.
  2. Then we set up the system as described in the IT structure documents.
  3. When the system has been set up, we create automatic installation software for all individual machines, if so desired, making the installation process faster and improving the recovery speed of the system at the same time, in case of crashes or other mishaps.
  4. If the system is large enough to warrant one or more servers, we will set them up with as much of the update processes and backup procedures working through these as possible, thus ensuring a more reliable and user friendly system.
  5. We also take care of domain settings, DNS settings, user definitions and permissions, along with any other user setting desired.
  6. Finally we offer to limit access to certain internet services, such as instant messaging programs, private mails etc. if you feel such a step is needed to ensure maximum security and user efficiency.

Recovery functions

Remember Murphy’s Law? “Anything that can go wrong will go wrong, eventually”. The statement reflects quite well what happens in a company when computers, servers, software and technical installations at some point brake down and need quick repair.

Systems delivered by Red River IT Services are of course stable and solid in the outset, but accidents happen all the time. Hardware brakes down and people make mistakes. To make sure that accidents only cause minimal damage to your operation, you need backup and emergency systems for your IT systems. Red River IT Services has extensive experience in these areas and we can help you set it up.

Backup and emergency procedures

Creating backup and emergency procedures is an essential part of constructing a solid IT system. It will save you time and worries having these things in place when an misfortune suddenly strikes.

The most important step is to make backups as often as possible. Many medium or large size companies often solve this issue with a dedicated file sharing server, on which backups and work projects are stored. Setting up such a server is a relatively small task compared to the real task – getting the users to use the server in conjunction with their own system.

There are several ways of handling this problem - from automated systems to users uploading their work documents at the end of each work day. To ensure that this is handled in the most user friendly and effective way, we can set up such the systems or procedures needed.

Online storage

Utilization of online storage for backup is another issue worth considering. It can be quite a useful solution if bad luck really strikes – fire, break-ins and other fatal accidents can devastate your company because on-site equipment is destroyed one way or another.

Unified naming conventions

Finally many companies need unified convention for file naming, at all levels of the organization. Conventions speed up work – making it easier for everyone. The users have a clearer overview of their own files while persons can get an understanding of the project quite easily as well. And finally conventions make it easier to check if backup procedures are followed or not.

Support and maintenance

To ensure that any IT related issue is solved with the least possible inconvenience for you, Red River IT Services can provide you with either a full IT-support package or IT support training for any IT service employees you might wish to train

This service may be relevant, when the system configuration has been set up and secured by another department in a larger organization or company.
