    Languages

It is important to meet the demands of your website visitors. If your company is catering for a multinational clientele it may be worth the effort to translate all website page into the relevant languages. This may be a time consuming task to do properly.

    Document sharing system

Allows the website administrator to easily manage a collection of documents online, and allows website visitors to browse and search the documents. Such a system can be customized extensively. Access right can be enforced so certain documents can only be downloaded by certain users having a password.

    Case stories

Units of information (a mix of text, pictures, videos,…) which describes previous successful work and results that has been provided by your company for customers. Case stories can be presented in many ways, and are a powerful means to promote you company services to new customers.

    News system

Present pieces of news that you think are relevant to your customers. Usually the 2 to 3 most recent news are shown on the website home page, while older news are accessible in some list form. Be aware that such a system imposes obligations since news have to be posted regularly on the site in order not to disappoint customers. An inactive news system is actually worse than no news system.

    Newsletter

A system by which website visitors can submit their e-mail address in order to receive e-mails sent out by the website administrator. Such systems must be used with care, as users will expect to receive a newsletter – of high quality - once or twice a month. If this does not happen, it will send a negative signal to everyone who subscribed.

    Website search

A system for searching and presenting the pages and/or items (news, case stories, documents,…) constituting the website. The usefulness of such a system increases with the amount of content in the website. Such systems can be refined endlessly, but is very useful even in its basic form.

    Contact form

A website page which allows visitors to enter information and send it to a predefined e-mail address by the click of a button. The advantage of such a system as compared to an ordinary email is that the form can be made to require and validate certain types of information. Also, the information you receive from such a system will always have the same structure, which may improve processing time or even allow some level of automation on the receiving end.

    User login

Such systems allow hiding certain pages and/or systems on a website so they can only be accessed if the visitor enters a valid username/password pair. For instance certain pages may be reserved for investors, or you may want only retailers of your products to be able to see the retail prices of your products.

    Gallery

A system for organizing and presenting pictures and/or videos. A gallery system helps the website administrator by offering easy upload and management of material. Gallery systems can be customized to your needs, including hiding parts of it behind a user login system.

    Blog

A system allowing someone from your company to post comments, statements, thoughts on the website, while visitors can read and respond to such postings. This may be useful for providing online user support.

    Forum

A system allowing visitors to your websites to post comments online, and thereby providing the possibility to have online discussions amongst visitors. It is also possible to have a forum moderator, in that the system can be made so postings will only appear on the site if a person approves it.

    Shop

Shopping systems allow users to browse, search and order the products you offer online. Visitors can see prices, descriptions, recommendations, ratings of products. Shopping systems can be combined with forum functionality where visitors can discuss products. The shop system can be set up to manage your stock and to notify when a product is about to run out. Orders can be sent to your company for processing and payments can either be accepted on your website (credit cards) or manually by your company.

    Online payment

A relatively young functionality in Vietnam. This allows visitors to pay maoney to your account  for your products online using a credit card. Any type of product can be paid this way, and various credit cards can be supported. Such functionality requires a paid subscription by your company with the relevant service provider.

    Flash elements

Effects – usually graphic – which can be inserted at various places on a website. Flash elements can range from simple effects such as fading/sliding pictures to full blown entire websites. Can also resemble movies and may integrate any kind of interactive functionality.

    Domain

The internet address of a website – for instance in http://www.google.com/, google.com is the domain. A domain must be unique on the internet, so there is a chance that the best domain name for you is already taken. A domain must end with one of a range of suffixes such as “.com”, “.com.vn” or “.vn”. A domain name is purchased from a company known as a registrar. There are many registrars available in Vietnam and around the world. Prices may vary but usually the cost of owning a domain is in the order of 20 USD per year.

    Hosting

A website can be thought of as a program that is running on a computer somewhere in the world. This computer is referred to as the host, and the company owning that computer is known as the hosting company. Hosting a website corresponds to renting a room in a hotel. Your company pays the hosting company (the hotel) a yearly fee and in return the hosting company maintains the hosting computer. The reliability, services and prices of hosting companies vary to a great extent. A given domain name can be hosted anywhere in the world.
